Seldom have I been as awed as I was passing through The Avenue of the Giants, in northern California, just south of Eureka. Here, surrounded by some of the tallest trees in the world, many of which are hundreds of years old, I felt a reverence of nature beyond ordinary experience. Stopping to gape slack -jawed at the grandeur before me, I could find no words, I was so lost in wonder. It is for good reason that this stretch of road has been called one of the most beautiful drives in California. We had the good fortune to be there on a weekday in the late summer, with very few others to distract from the view, but I suspect that the immensity of the great trees would overshadow any crowd. Go, and be marveled.
