Driving toward Emerald Bay, Highway 89 snakes along Lake Tahoe, the land dropping away on both sides of the road here and there, taking your breath, even though you are only going ten miles per hour. Which is fitting, as the view once you get to Inspiration Point will take your breath again, at a much lower pulse. Six hundred feet above the bay, the view is spectacular, which explains the many people who joined us to take it in. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to explore the area in any depth, so we missed out on Vikingsholm Castle and Mrs. Knight’s teahouse, which is out in the middle of the bay, on Fannette Island. I guess it just gives us something to do next time, which is certain to happen sooner than later, as the whole area is as inspiring as any I’ve seen.
