The Long Cut is An Odyssey. It is an attitude toward living. It is a production company.

The Long Cut was born of an idea to document our travels around the U.S. and beyond. We began in 2019, on a long circuit through the country, visiting 26 states and friends and family all over. The blog on this website is the story of those travels. Though we had originally intended to shoot video sequences on that trip, we ended up moving too fast for that to be practical, so our coverage thus far is mostly in words and pictures.

However, we still intend to move our chronicles on to video in the future. Eschewing the sort of travel fluff that some programs seem to focus on, we intend to do more human-interest stories. Some of our inspirations are Charles Kuralt’s’ On the Road series and Texas Country Reporter with Bob and Kelli Phillips. Their off the beaten path approach suits us and our ideals well- we would much rather hear the personal stories of real people than learn about the goings-on at a faraway beach resort. Not that we would turn down a trip to a beach resort, mind you…

For now, our narrative will unfold here on The Long Cut website, but eventually, we may create a web or television series chronicling our new adventures. Till then,
